My Top Five Tips For Upcoming High School Students

The thought of entering high school can be daunting. If you are a junior high student coming into high school, you probably have a lot of questions. While I wont be answering those questions here, I will be giving you my top five tips related to life in high school. These are just a few things I have learned from my own experience in high school. Hopefully you find them helpful. Without further ado, let’s begin.

#5: Use a planner/to-do list

Having a planner or to-do list is probably the greatest advice I can give as far as productivity. Use it to keep track of what assignments are due and when. It is great because you can have peace of mind knowing exactly what work you have instead of wondering “Did I forget about an assignment in [insert class name here] class?” Personally, I use the app Due (because I got a promo code to get it for free), but just about any planner/to-do list (physical or digital) should do.

#4: Make Time For Fun

Stress sucks. High school can be stressful for many reasons, but stress is neither necessary nor helpful. Some would say stress is a good motivator, but there are other ways to motivate yourself (which I will cover in my upcoming course. As your workload increases, it is important that you learn how to make time to unwind and have fun. When I first started high school I was spending my entire weekend working. I thought I had no time for fun. Later, I realized that it was not that I didn’t have time for fun, but rather that I was working inefficiently. You almost always have more time in a day than you think, it’s just up to you to learn how to organize it.

#3: Join an extracurricular

Joining an extracurricular has many benefits. First, it gives you an opportunity to meet like-minded people. Second, you get a chance to foster your passion. Finally, it looks good on a college application. I strongly recommend you find at least one extracurricular at your school to join. If your school doesn’t offer any that interest you, show some initiative and make one. It would also probably be a good idea to join a sport to help you stay active.

#2: Stay open to new things

High school is a great time to explore new things. Meet new people, try new activities, learn new skills. Remember, high school is the last step before adulthood. Enjoy it. Maybe a new club starts at your school for a topic you know nothing about. You should consider joining it; you never know where it might lead you.

#1: Find balance

Work, fun. Old, new. High school is a flurry of different things. It is important that you learn how to balance your time and your life. That is the entire point of my upcoming course. When you find balance in high school you will learn to enjoy your experience and manage quite a bit.

Bonus Tip: Lean on the Lord

I didn’t include this in the count of five because I know that not all my readers have a relationship with God. However, if you are Christian (whether you are about to enter high school or not), always remember that your relationship with God should come before anything else. Many times, when we are bombarded by new experiences (like entering high school), we forget about our Rock of Salvation. Don’t let that happen.

Well, there you have it. My top five (six?) tips for upcoming high school students. If you want more advice about high school, please consider subscribing to receive updates about my upcoming course. It won’t subscribe you to the rest of the blog; you may do that below, should you so desire.
